Some of the state’s top collegiate recruits as well as several of Texas’ state-ranked programs will come into focus as the 2021 McDonald’ Texas Invitational plays out Nov. 18-20 at eight Pasadena ISD locations as well as two-more within Deer Park ISD, and there are many more winners along the way.

Proceeds from the tournament will go directly to the Pasadena ISD and Deer Park ISD education foundations, both 501 (c)(3) non-profit, tax exempt entities that benefit students in their respective school districts.

Pasadena ISD Education Foundation Director Andrea Nguyen said excitement is building for many Pasadena ISD groups as the tournament approaches.  For instance, culinary students have for several seasons been involved with providing food for the hospitality rooms at the venues, providing tasty meals, refreshments and treats for visiting coaches, referees, media and other dignitaries.

Journalism students will also be busy trying to capture the perfect images of the action on the court. AV students will be assisting with streaming the games live. Literally everywhere one turns, district students will be involved in the fun.

“We’re so excited for the arrival of the McDonald’s Texas Invitational this year,” Nguyen said. “Not only will many great boys’ and girls’ basketball players be on the court showing their talents, but many students from a variety of groups will be involved to collectively make the McDonald’s event be what we know will be a tremendous success.”

Funds from the tournament will go, Nguyen said, to aid the district’s mini grant program, which each year can include music, arts and many others that might require funding to occur.

The Pasadena ISD Education Foundation was initiated in 2003, around the same time this tournament debuted. Since then, the two have developed a relationship beneficial to all involved.

“We are so proud of the growth of the McDonald’s Texas Invitational and way the event benefits so many students along the way,” Nguyen said. “It’s an exciting time when the event is in our area.”

The Deer Park ISD Education Foundation was founded in 1991 to help Deer Park ISD meet needs beyond those provided for by state support.

Over the last 21 years since inception, the foundation has awarded more than $1 million dollars to Deer Park ISD, which has, in turn, made a difference in the lives of thousands of students within the district.
