Top 25 Class 6A Allen High School Eagles compete for another tournament win

The reigning state and Invitational champion Allen High School boys’ basketball team is set to compete again this year in the 2019 McDonald’s Texas Invitational to reclaim their throne.

The Invitational will consist of 48 boys’ teams that have been divided into two 24-team divisions. Each 24-team division has been divided into eight three-team pools. After two pool-play games on Thursday, the teams are divided by record into Gold, Silver and Bronze brackets, each bracket working toward a champion in bracket play on Friday and Saturday.

The Eagles, led by Coach Joe McCullough, are ranked among the top 25 Class 6A boys’ basketball teams in the state by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches. However, the road to the championship may not be smooth sailing as they face some of the state’s top-ranked athletes in one of the nation’s premiere early-season tournaments.

On the first day of the tournament, Allen will face off against the Cinco Ranch Cougars and the Manvel Mavericks. The Eagles’ ability to compete for the Gold championship is dependent on their performance in these preliminary games.

While the Eagles had a 33-4 season in 2018, they face a challenge for the Gold from the fourth-ranked Dickinson Gators, who last year had a 21-9 season and are led by Coach Jason Wilson. Allen will also face competition from the ninth-ranked Lewisville Fighting Farmers and the tenth-ranked Summer Creek Bulldogs.
